A man was recently charged with drug trafficking. Deputies with Collier County accused the man of drug trafficking after discovering around $1.6 million worth of cocaine in the back of the man's pickup truck. When Florida residents are accused of drug trafficking or similar crimes, they typically enlist the help of an experienced criminal defense attorney.
The 58-year-old Naples man was arrested on a recent Tuesday night in February. Authorities executed a search warrant on his pickup truck around 8:30 p.m. Authorities claim that they discovered a black suitcase located in the pickup's truck bed. Authorities say they found nearly 46 kilograms of cocaine in the case, which had an estimated value of $1.6 million.
Deputies initially pulled over the man because he had dark tint on his vehicle's windows that police deemed to be illegal. A narcotics-sniffing dog then reportedly alerted the deputies to a specific area in the pickup truck bed which was covered. There, they say they found the case loaded with cocaine.
The accused individual will be legally and fully entitled to a criminal defense, which includes the right to representation by an attorney during the pending legal proceedings in a Florida criminal court. If a conviction is ultimately secured, drug trafficking charges often come with severe penalties. Nevertheless, the individual has as yet been convicted of anything and has every right to contest the accusations and the proof on which they are based. Constitutional protections against unreasonable searches and seizures may be a focal point of the defense counsel in preparing a defense for the current accusations.
