After a recent drug sting, 26 people have been arrested on various charges and 10 more are at large. Reports from the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office share that the suspects were taken during Operation Shady Lane, a multi-agency effort to catch those involved in drug trafficking in Florida. As many as 36 warrants were issued for the operation.
Along with the arrests, police reportedly confiscated close to $120,000 worth of drugs and weapons. Cocaine, heroin and 500 prescription pills, as well as a sawed-off shotgun and other weapons, were all said to have been taken from the scene. There were other suspicious substances found as well that have not yet been analyzed by authorities, according to the report.
The investigation is said to have begun in February of last year. Several of the state's drug enforcement teams were a part of the combined efforts. The focus of the multi-unit group was to zero in on a ring that was suspected of trafficking heroin. Wiretaps, controlled buys and other covert operations were all a part of the process. There were three locations listed for which search warrants were given.
In the state of Florida, drug trafficking is a serious offense, often leading to heavy sentences. Anyone who has been accused of this crime and arrested on the charges has the right to consult with a criminal law attorney before speaking with the authorities. A criminal lawyer can help the client understand his or her rights when it comes to answering criminal charges. The attorney will fight to provide the best defense possible for his or her client's case.
